Dr. Sharma joined TERI University in August, 2012 as an Assistant professor. Dr. Sharma obtained her PhD degree in the Environmental Sciences from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and worked at NRSC-ISRO during her research tenure. Dr. Sharma's doctoral work focused on atmospheric corrections to satellite data towards generating normalized vegetation index (NDVI) data from different sensors over Indian region which provides operational methodology for monitoring drought conditions over the region from multi satellite missions. Her research work also included intensive ground based measurements and integrating satellite remote sensing datasets to describe, model and analyze aerosol characteristics affecting local and regional climate. Dr. Sharma conducted interdisciplinary research involving aerosols, greenhouse gas emissions and environmental remote sensing to understand climate dynamics in general and aerosol climate interactions, in particular.

Her research work so far resulted in significant international publications (more than 30 research papers and one book article) in peer reviewed journals, with some of them on top-25 referred research papers in climate change science and earth system journals. She has also received various travel grants and presented her research work at International conferences in Norway, China and India. 

Her research interest includes Atmospheric aerosols and traces gases, Ground measurements, Solar Irradiance, Climate change, Satellite remote sensing of Air pollution and Radiative Forcing.
