The Hybrid Micro Grid (HMG) facility has been developed as a research facility using Polycrystalline Solar PV arrays, Wind Turbine with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator, Battery Bank and DC Loads. The HMG is powered by Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) comprises of a 200Wp wind turbine generator, 200Wp Solar Panel and two 12V, 7AH batteries connected in series. Array of LED bulbs are used to make the DC load simulator. The HMG is primarily be a laboratory simulator set up and used for carrying out power flow experiments by MTech and PhD students. The Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are placed on the roof top of our hostel block. The laboratory facility is active till the DC loads for experimentation & research purpose and ready to be integrated to the existing grid using inverter and AC loads.
Knowledge of heat transfer finds its application in various renewable energy and energy efficient technologies such as solar thermal heat and power, thermal energy storage, thermal management of building, passive solar architecture, biomass power generation etc. Heat transfer lab is designed to give M.Tech students of Renewable Energy Engineering and Management, coming with various undergraduate degrees, an introduction to measurement techniques in basic heat transfer processes. The laboratory experiments are designed to give students hands-on training on heat transfer process experiments such conduction, convection, radiation and heat exchange. This also helps students to understand the concepts of thermal equilibrium, thermal inertia along with examples of typical values of properties of a process or material. After completing this lab course, the students are better equipped to understand the experiments on solar energy and thermal storage as part of Energy Lab-II.
The Geoinformatics Laboratory at the TERI SAS is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipments such High-end computers (dual processor), scanners, digitizers, printers, plotters, Hand held GPS, Infra red Thermometer and others. Digital image processing software like Erdas Imagine 9.3/8.7, LPS 9.3, GIS software like ArcGIS 9.3 Workstation, GMS 6.0, WEAP, are some of the advanced support systems available. Web publishing tools include ArcGIS advance and ArcIMS servers. The laboratory is also equipped with open source software and collection of digital database. We have strong network with various research institutions and universities working in the subfields. These facilities support R&D activities in various centres of TERI.
The combustion lab has been established to test the performance of cookstoves based on their thermal efficiency as well as emissions. Internationally accepted protocols such as water boiling test (WBT) and Kitchen performance test (KPT) can be used. The hood method is used to capture and quantify the various products of incomplete combustion. Following instruments and support facilities are available in the lab: - Moisture meter - Bomb calorimeter - Equipment to maintain isokinetic conditions - Aerosol Spectrometer and dust monitor - Low flow air samplers (attached with SKC pump) for collection of bulk aerosols for characterization.
To work in power industry, it is very important to develop an expertise to handle various power system equipments like synchronous machine, DC machine, Induction machine, transformers and transmission lines. This laboratory is designed to provide fundamental experiential knowledge through hands-on experiments on different equipment of used in electrical power system at various loading conditions.
The Solar Lighting Laboratory (SLL) at the TERI SAS is a unique laboratory in India to adhere to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for the testing of solar lighting systems (SLS) and the first laboratory in India which has got the recognition under the Lighting Global programme of International Finance Corporation (IFC) (IEC is an international body that sets standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies throughout the world). The laboratory is also supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and currently following all the quality procedures which are compiled to National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL).The sophisticated equipment and test setup that is used for testing lighting products in the laboratory are calibrated by National Physical Laboratory (NPL) or NABL accredited calibration laboratories.
Currently, the laboratory's facility is available for testing and long term performance assessment of various lighting systems (both general lighting and solar based lighting) and also for carrying out various training programmes for different target groups. So far, SLL has tested more than 120 models of solar lighting systems including solar lanterns, solar home lighting systems, solar task lights and multi-purpose solar lights. SLL has also collaboration with more than 10 industry partners and research organizations for developing cost effective solar lighting systems.
The ability of the laboratory to cater to the testing needs of both rural as well as urban lighting infrastructure makes it stand out from other laboratories. The laboratory is working towards strong quality assurance and testing programmes, which will help in building consumer confidence towards the solar lighting products. The IFC's Lighting Asia - India programme is working with TERI to achieve these goals.
The analytical and geochemistry lab caters the needs for research in understanding the earth sciences problems and providing solutions to these problems. The researchers in the laboratory are currently engaged in understanding the natural occurrence of Arsenic, Fluoride and Uranium in groundwater. The lab also has developed prototype nano-materials to remove such geogenic contaminants from groundwater to provide safe drinking water. The lab has established linkages to Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University; Dept. of Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Standford University. The lab also has developed linkages with institutions in India such as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, Jawaharlal Nehru University, SPCB Bihar, Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, Punjab, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences etc. The laboratory houses several water field testing kits, flame photometer, double beam spectrophotometer, LED-Fluorimeter, Radiation Survey Meter, Air-dry Oven, Sonicator, pH meter, Muffle furnace, Ion selective Electrodes, Conductivity meter etc.

A media lab with all modern tools play an important role to disseminate knowledge in an effective way that ensures that we at TERI SAS forge the professionals of tomorrow who contribute in making this otherwise crumbling world sustainable than ever before.
The lab not only enables the students and faculty to participate and engage in interactive sessions, but the online video conferencing mode is also used for lectures from other institutions and for interaction with students at other Universities.
A full HD quality camera and other supporting software that makes the online interaction between the faculty and the students much like the real-world if not better is necessary and has been in place for a while now.

TERI School of Advanced Studies has a Language Laboratory with audio-visual equipment to help in learning language skills. The Laboratory is utilized by students for self-enhancement and soft skill development activities. The Laboratory proves beneficial for those students who are weak in use of English language. The lab aims at confidence-building among students for interactions and presentations in English. The basic purpose of the lab is to provide students a platform to enhance English language skills, communication skills and to practice soft skills.
